Head Coach Neil Johnson

Neil Johnson returns for his fourth season as head coach of the Gwynedd-Mercy College Women’s Soccer Program. In his previous three seasons, in which the team was 19-9-2 in league play, Johnson led the Griffins into the CSAC playoffs each year including an appearance in the conference championship in 2008.

In seven seasons (Spring 2004 to Spring 2010) at nearby North Penn High School, Johnson was head coach for the girl’s varsity squad and captured two division championships in 2006 and 2007, while guiding the team to the district playoffs in all seven seasons. He owns a career 96-51-8 record, which includes a district runner-up finish and state semi-finalist in 2007, which was a first for the school.
At the club level, Johnson is currently in his sixth season coaching the Montgomery United SC-U16 girl’s premier team. A very successful premier team who were PA State Cup Champions in 2007, finalists in 2008, and two-time semifinalists (2006, 2010).

Johnson coached at the Olympic Developmental Program level for EPYSA, coaching at the girls U14 and U16 age groups where many of the players went on to play at Division I, II and III levels in college.

His playing experience is vast: growing up as a kid in England, he played for Bransholme High School (Hull, England), his city school boys team, his county (or State equivalent) school boys team, and several top youth and men's teams in the Hull area before attending college at Lock Haven University.

At LHU, he was a key member of the 1980 NCAA Division II Championship Team, assisting on the game-winning overtime goal in the title game vs. Florida International University. After graduating from LHU, Johnson returned to England and played a couple of years for Goole Town FC in the English Northern Premier League.

Johnson's coaching experience spans across 20 years. For the past twelve years he has held the United States Soccer Federation (USSF) 'A' Coaching License.
Johnson graduated from Lock Haven University (LHU) with a B.S. in Biology-Chemistry in 1983.

Johnson resides in North Wales with his wife Aleta, who he met at LHU over 28 years ago. The Johnson's have two children: Laura aged 25 and a 2007 graduate from Montclair State University, and Stuart aged 23 and a 2010 graduate from Widener University.
