Head Coach Neil Johnson

Neil Johnson returns for his third season as head coach of the Gwynedd-Mercy College Women’s Soccer Program. Building on his first year success, a #5 seeding and eighth consecutive conference appearance, and again last season, a winning mark with a ninth consecutive post-season conference appearance, #2 seed, and a return to the CSAC Championship final, he has the Griffins set for greater sights.

In six seasons at nearby North Penn High School, Johnson guided the girl's team to the district playoffs in each season while capturing division championships in 2006 and 2007. He owns a career 86-42-6 record, which includes a district runner-up finish and a state semi-finalist in 2007, the first in school history.

From 1999 to 2002, he was a part of the girl's EPYSA Olympic Developmental Program staff coaching U-14-16 teams where many of these players went on to play at the Division I, II and III levels.

At the club level, Johnson is currently in his fifth season coaching the Montgomery United SC U15s Girls premier team. The team’s successes are evident, ranked second in the state of Pennsylvania, 12th in the region, and 37th in the nation.
Johnson also participates in local soccer camps and has been associated with various soccer clubs such as the Montgomery United Soccer Club Boys and Girls U9-U13, Deep Run Boys U14-U17, Upper Bucks Select Girls U11-U13, and the Ukrainian Nationals Girls U14-U18.

Johnson graduated from Lock Haven University (LHU) with a B.S. in Biology-Chemistry in 1983.

Johnson's playing experience is vast: Growing up as a kid in England, he played for Bransholme High School (Hull, England), his City School boys team, his County (or State equivalent) School boys team, and several top youth and men's teams in the Hull area before attending college at LHU. At LHU, he was a key member of the 1980 NCAA Division II Championship Team. In the NCAA Championship game, Johnson sent through the 35 yard pass in the 2nd overtime period that lead to the game winning goal versus Florida International University. After graduating from LHU, Johnson returned to England and played a couple of years for Goole Town FC in the English Northern Premier League.

His coaching experience spans across 19 years. For the past eleven years he has held the United States Soccer Federation (USSF) 'A' Coaching License.

Johnson resides in North Wales with his wife Aleta, who he met at LHU over 27 years ago. The Johnson's have two children: Laura aged 24 and 2007 graduate from Montclair State University, and Stuart aged 22 and a current student at Widener University.
