Assistant Coaches

Craig Heller

Craig Heller is currently in his third year as Recruiting Coordinator/Assistant Coach of the Gwynedd Mercy Women’s Volleyball program. Craig’s journey into volleyball began as an outdoor doubles player who transitioned into the indoor game. As his love of the game meshed with his Kinesiology background (currently employed at Twin Valley School District), Craig found coaching. He began coaching at Neshaminy School District as assistant boys’ coach and head girls’ coach of from 2001-2004. Craig led the 2004 Neshaminy girls’ team to the programs most successful year at 17-3.

Heller has established many successful club volleyball teams, working with Xceleration, Del-Val, and Liberty Belles Volleyball clubs. His knowledge, experience and passion for the sport has proven him to be a vital part of the Griffins' program.


R.J. Berger

 Berger also returns for his third season as assistant coach. As a member of the Maryland Junior Olympic USAV team in high school, he later captained the Swarthmore College Men’s Club Team and played for the Villanova University Club Team. Berger got a taste of the coaching ranks, assisting with the Swathmore Women’s Team for three seasons. He then took the reigns as assistant for the Liberty Belles Girl’s U-17 Junior Olympic Team.





Meredith Collins

A consummate team player, driven on and off the court, and magna cum laude graduate (Class of 2008), former Griffin Meredith Collins returns for her second year as assistant coach. Prior to her arrival at Gwynedd-Mercy, Meredith played on four consecutive state qualifying teams while attending Villa Maria Academy, a career highlighted in 2002 with an undefeated season and PIAA State Championship as a junior. In addition, she played club volleyball for more than six years, and has been a club head coach the last two years, coaching girls 14 and under with Del-Val Volleyball and 15 and under with Delaware Volleyball Academy in Wilmington. Currently, Meredith works at Paul’s Run in Philadelphia as associate director, Independent Living.       

 

Megan Calafati

Megan Calafati joins the coaching staff this year with years of volleyball playing experience. In high school, she was part of the undefeated 1999 PA State Championship team (Susquehannock High) and was named to the state all-star team in 2000. She also played for Synergy club volleyball, whose team in 2001 placed 17th at Junior Olympics (18-Open division). She received a full athletic scholarship to the University of Delaware, where she played volleyball for two years. Megan currently works at Merck & Co as a Senior Engineer.
