Assistant Coaches

Bob Denney
Denney returns for his seventh season as the top assistant coach for the Griffins. Bobby D coaches the defense and trains the goalkeepers. He also assists the head coach with the analysis of scouting reports and has a major input on all of the game plans. A graduate of the University of Pennsylvania, Denney previously coached at Radnor High School, where he helped to maintain the program's status as one of the best in the region. He has coached at Penncrest High School and at Cardinal O'Hara High School, where he served as the head coach for three seasons, working to establish their program as a perennial playoff team. Denney works as a freelance photo-journalist for a number of publications in Southeastern Pennsylvania. He'll be in charge of scouting, practice preparation, recruiting efforts in the Philadelphia Suburbs and out-of-state region.

David Bontempo Jr. ‘07
David Bontempo Jr. is a 2007 graduate of Gwynedd Mercy and returns to the GMC sideline for his fourth season after playing for the Griffins for 3 seasons. Dave is responsible for monitoring game day matchups and tracking opponents’ statistics and formations during games. He designs GMC men's soccer apparel for fundraising opportunities and acts as one of the liaisons with GMC soccer alumni. Dave also oversees the filming of games for individual and team improvements.

Dennis Helverson ‘08
Dennis returns to the GMC campus for his first season as an assistant coach after graduating in 2008. Dennis was a four-year starter at Gwynedd-Mercy and achieved all-conference recognition. Coach Bontempo says Dennis Helverson is one of the toughest competitors to ever wear the GMC uniform and is hoping his focus and tenacity will be an outstanding example for the young Griffins.
