Griffins advance to semifinal round vs. Eastern on Wednesday

GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA - Led by senior Melissa Burks' (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton) two goals and four assists, third-seeded Gwynedd-Mercy defeated sixth-seeded Wesley, 17-10, in a first-round game of the 2007 Pennsylvania Athletic Conference (PAC) Tournament.

With the win, the Griffins (12-4) will play at #2-seeded Eastern in a semifinal matchup on Wednesday.

Burks collected a game-high and season-high six points. Teammate Meghan Volz (Warminster, Pa./Archbishop Wood) added four goals as Gwynedd held the Wolverines to just four second-half goals.

The Griffins led 8-6 at the half before Volz started the scoring just 12 seconds into the second stanza. She would add another just over a minute later as GM held a four-goal cushion the rest of the way.

Jade Martin led Wesley with three scores and two assists. Stacey Johnson also netted three goals while Brittany Block notched a goal and two helpers.
