Griffins force extra time with late rally, but fall to Cougars

Box Score

UNION, N.J. - After forcing overtime with a late rally, Gwynedd-Mercy came up short in the extra session, falling 14-12 to Kean in a non-league game Tuesday night.

Down, 12-7, with just over 17 minutes to play, the Griffins (9-4) methodically whittled the deficit down and finally tied it on a goal from junior Meghan Volz (Warminster, Pa./Archbishop Wood) with 1:12 left in regulation.

In the extra session Kean's Gio Buono scored two of her game-high eight goals to account for the final score.

Volz had a goal and an assist. Freshman Bridget Gibson (Philadelphia/St. Huberts) led Gwynedd with three goals and two assists.

Joeline Bennett added five scores for the Cougars (5-6).

The Griffins will host Alvernia this Thursday in a PAC game at 4 p.m.
