Griffins net season-high in goals in PAC win

ST. DAVIDS, PA - Third-seeded Gwynedd-Mercy lost
in the semifinals of the 2007 PAC Women's Lacrosse Tournament to
second-seeded Eastern, 19-12, Wednesday afternoon.
The Griffins (12-5) will now await a possible ECAC
Tournament bid, which will be announced early next week.
The Eagles (14-2) netted five-straight goals to
open the second stanza breaking an 8-8 halftime deadlock. Gwynedd
was held to just four goals in the period in the loss.
Junior Megan Volz (Warminster, Pa./Archbishop
Wood) led the Griffins with four goals. Seniors Kaitlin Pope
(Warminster, Pa./Archbishop Wood) and Melissa Burks (Harleysville,
Pa./Souderton) each added a goal and an assist for GM.
Gwynedd came out firing, scoring three-straight
goals in the first six minutes of the game to stake a 3-0 lead.
Eastern's Jessie Basch finally tied the game with just over four
minutes in the half. Erin Reimel gave EU its first lead of the game
with a score with 1:35 left but a late goal from Pope with just
ticks left knotted the teams at eight apiece at the half.
Basch led all scorers with 11 points (four goals/seven
assists). Teammate Kate Hoy added four tallies and three assists.
GM goalie Lauren Monte (Perkasie, Pa./Christopher
Dock) recorded a season-high 18 saves. Jenn Van Ness recorded 10
stops for Eastern.
