Griffins net season-high in goals in PAC win

GYWNEDD VALLEY, PA. - Three Griffins netted four or more goals each as Gwynedd-Mercy ran past Alvernia, 21-14, in Pennsylvania Athletic Conference action Thursday afternoon.

Senior Kaitlin Pope (Warminster, Pa./Archbishop Wood) led the charge with five goals. Junior Meghan Volz (Warminster, Pa./Archbishop Wood) and freshman Bridget Gibson (Philadelphia/St. Huberts) each added four goals as Gwynedd and Alvernia met in a rematch of last season's first-round PAC Playoff game.

McKenna Shafer led all attackers with a game-high six tallies for the Crusaders (4-4, 3-4 PAC).

The Griffins (10-4, 8-2 PAC) used a six-goal spurt early in the game to take a commanding lead. Pope scored the last two goals of the first half and the first of the second stanza as part of a 7-0 run to open up a 10-goal lead.

Gwynedd hosts Bridgewater in non-league action this Saturday at 3 p.m.
