Eastern 4, Gwynedd-Mercy 2
Griffins come up short against defending champs

Box Score

GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. – Eastern scored twice in the second half to go on and defeat Gwynedd-Mercy, 4-2, in a Pennsylvania Athletic Conference game Wednesday afternoon.

Despite a goal and an assist from senior Ashley Blackwell (Mohrsville, Pa./Schuylkill Valley) and 14 saves from freshman goalie Aubrey McDevitt (Narberth, Pa./Lower Merion), the Griffins (3-4, 1-2 PAC) came up short in knocking off the defending PAC champions.

Blackwell got the Griffins on the board early, knocking in her third goal of the season just 3:04 into the game. The Eagles (6-2, 4-0 PAC) answered with goals from Stephanie Moyer and Ellen Hibner to take a 2-1 lead.

Gwynedd tied it as Blackwell set up sophomore Amanda Reppert (Oley, Pa./Boyertown) seven minutes left before the half to send the teams to a 2-2 knot at the break.

Eastern pulled ahead for good in the 47th minute with a tally and later in the half, Moyer adder her second on the day via a penalty stroke in the 52nd minute.

Gwynedd will play at Marywood in another PAC matchup on Saturday at 1 p.m.
