2007 PAC Tournament Semifinal
Griffins' playoff run comes up short; await possible ECAC bid

Box Score

READING, PA. – Fourth-seeded Gwynedd-Mercy fell, 1-0, to top-seeded Alvernia in the semifinal round of the 2007 Pennsylvania Athletic Conference Field Hockey Tournament Tuesday afternoon.

The Griffins struggled early in the game, as Gwynedd was held without a shot and a corner in the first half, but stayed within striking distance as goalie Aubrey McDevitt (Narberth, Pa./Upper Merion)and the defense kept it a 0-0 game at the half. The freshman made nine saves in the first stanza on her way to a season-high 16 for the game.

The Crusaders took a 1-0 lead ten minutes into the second half as Janelle Lynch converted on a penalty corner.

Gwynedd’s offense produced eight shots and the team attempted five corners in the second half but was unable to get one past Alvernia keeper Audrey Hoffman, who registered seven saves.

The Griffins now will await word on a possible ECAC Tournament postseason berth. Selections will be made on Monday, November 5th. Stay tuned to the GMC Athletics Website for more information.
