The 2006 GMC Womens Field Hockey Team will
incorporate 18 returning players and a talented, 10-member recruiting
class in what promises to be a big improvement entering Head Coach
Greers fourth season. With a combined intelligence, strength
and speed necessary to dominate the playing field, Greer looks to
guide the Griffins to the conference playoffs.
This season is the continuation of the squads
rebuilding process. The new players will bring a fresh outlook and
much enthusiasm to Gwynedd-Mercys proud athletic tradition.
Coupled with the veterans, including two seasoned goalies, this
excellent mix will be ready for a successful season.
Greer plans to continue molding her talented team
into PAC playoff contenders for years to come while attempting to
reclaim the PAC Championship Gwynedd-Mercy won in 1999.
By emphasizing fundamentals and individual skills, Greer will further
strengthen team concept and take full advantage of the groups
collective speed and determination in this exciting new season.
My goal for this year is to become the team
to be reckoned with in the PAC, while always playing hard between
the lines, until the final whistle blows and having some fun doing
it, as well, says Wesner.
An additional honor was bestowed upon her team for
the 2004-05 academic year, by being recognized by the National Field
Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) for their combined 3.41 GPA,
which was fifth in the entire nation.
The experienced returning members, Greer adds, will
be excellent role models for the first-year players.
