Loss mathematically eliminates Griffins from playoffs

GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. - The playoff bubble gave way
as Misericordia defeated the Griffins, 2-1, Thursday afternoon in
a Pennsylvania Athletic Conference game.
With the loss, Gwynedd-Mercy (7-8, 4-6 PAC) will
come up short in qualifying for next week's PAC Tournament.
The Cougars (10-5, 7-2 PAC) got two first-half goals
and held off a furious second-half rally by GM to win their fifth
in a row.
Senior Janine Reiner (Collegeville, Pa./Spring-Ford)
scored her fifth goal of the season with under nine minutes left
with an assist from Mary Gerth (Lansdale, Pa/North Penn).
The Griffins then threw everything but the kitchen sink including
nine penalty corners but were unable to get the equalizer.
Junior Lauren Monte (Perkasie, Pa./Christopher
Dock) notched eight saves while CM keeper Jamie Derr recorded four
stops.
Gwynedd-Mercy will try to play spoiler this weekend
as they play at Marywood, who are vying for a playoff spot this
Saturday at 1 p.m.
