Misericordia 2, Gwynedd-Mercy 1
Loss mathematically eliminates Griffins from playoffs

Box Score

GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. - The playoff bubble gave way as Misericordia defeated the Griffins, 2-1, Thursday afternoon in a Pennsylvania Athletic Conference game.

With the loss, Gwynedd-Mercy (7-8, 4-6 PAC) will come up short in qualifying for next week's PAC Tournament.

The Cougars (10-5, 7-2 PAC) got two first-half goals and held off a furious second-half rally by GM to win their fifth in a row.

Senior Janine Reiner (Collegeville, Pa./Spring-Ford) scored her fifth goal of the season with under nine minutes left with an assist from Mary Gerth (Lansdale, Pa/North Penn). The Griffins then threw everything but the kitchen sink including nine penalty corners but were unable to get the equalizer.

Junior Lauren Monte (Perkasie, Pa./Christopher Dock) notched eight saves while CM keeper Jamie Derr recorded four stops.

Gwynedd-Mercy will try to play spoiler this weekend as they play at Marywood, who are vying for a playoff spot this Saturday at 1 p.m.
