Fords hand Griffins a loss in season opener

HAVERFORD, PA. - Haverford slipped by Gwynedd-Mercy, 2-1, in the season opener for the Griffins Thursday afternoon.

The Fords (1-1) struck first with a goal just 2:44 into the game.

But Janine Reiner (Collegeville, Pa./Spring-Ford) answered, tying it at 1-1 with an early tally in the second half. The senior's unassisted goal came in the 37th minute.

Both teams managed six shots apiece, but the Griffins had six penalty corners to Haverford's two.

Gwynedd-Mercy will host Immaculata this Saturday in a Pennsylvania Athletic Conference game starting at noon.
