GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. - Goals from freshman Nicole
Dowling (Jamison, Pa./Central Bucks South) and sophomore Ashley
Blackwell (Mohrsville, Pa./Schuylkill Valley) were enough as
Gwynedd-Mercy withstood a late charge by Swarthmore, defeating the
Garnet, 2-1, Thursday afternoon in non-league action.
Dowling scored her fourth goal on the season unassisted
just 6:40 into the game. It became 2-0 in the second half when Blackwell
netted her seventh tally of the year with just over 15 minutes in
the contest.
Swarthmore (6-7) cut the GMC lead to 2-1 on a penalty
shot by Summer Spicer with 2:46 in regulation.
The goalie tandem of junior Kaitlin Pope
(Warminster, Pa./Archbishop Wood) and sophomore Lauren Monte
(Perkasie, Pa./Christopher Dock) combined to make two saves. Garnet
keeper Melissa LaVan made four stops.
Gwynedd-Mercy (7-9) plays at Cabrini in a rescheduled
PAC game this Saturday, October 22nd at 10 a.m.
