Griffins notch first win of the season in overtime

GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. - Junior Janine Reiner (Collegeville,
Pa./Spring-Ford) helped Gwynedd-Mercy to its first victory of the
season as she scored in the 78th minute of overtime to lift the
Griffins over Haverford, 2-1, Tuesday afternoon in non-league action.

Junior Melissa Burks (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton)
also scored for the Griffins (1-2). Sophomore goalie Lauren Monte
(Perkasie, Pa./Christopher Dock) notched five stops as GMC outshot
the Fords, 12-7.
Haverford's (0-1) Emily Buniva tied the contest
in the second at the 42:30 mark with an assist from Jen Chu.
Monte and Griffins held off a late penalty stroke
with under eight minutes in the second half as Chu's shot was wide
left, keeping the contest deadlocked.
Reiner tapped in her own shot just inside the circle
amidst a scramble in front of Haverford keeper Amie Roe for the
game-winner. Roe posted 14 saves for the Fords.
Gwynedd-Mercy will play at Albright on Thursday,
September 8th at 4 p.m.
