GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. - Junior Janine Reiner (Collegeville,
Pa./Spring-Ford) scored two goals and Erin Hill (Collegeville,
Pa./Spring-Ford) added a goal and an assist but it wasn't enough
as Eastern held off a second-half rally by the Griffins, defeating
Gwynedd-Mercy, 4-3, in a Pennsylvania Athletic Conference Game Tuesday
afternoon.
The Eagles' June Brant scored two goals, both coming
in the first half to help Eastern (3-4, 3-1 PAC) to a 3-1 halftime
lead. It was 4-1 at the 52:11 mark of the second with a goal from
Kate Gamber.
The Griffins (3-5, 2-2 PAC), who were seeking their
third-straight league win, tied to rally as junior Melissa Burks
(Harleysville, Pa./Souderton) assisted on goals from Hill and Reiner
in the second half, the last coming with just under 10 minutes to
play.
Sophomore keeper Lauren Monte (Perkasie,
Pa./Christopher Dock) recorded 15 saves while Eastern goalie Rebecca
Hewes made four. The Eagles outshot the Griffins, 19-5.
Gwynedd-Mercy returns to action on Thursday, September
22nd with a PAC game at Rosemont at 4 p.m.
