Mike Werner

Michael Werner begins his tenth year coaching and fourth year as the Head Cross Country Coach at Gwynedd-Mercy College. In 2006 Werner had his most successful year coaching at Gwynedd-Mercy College with both the men’s and women’s teams taking second place at the Pennsylvania Athletic Conference (PAC) Championships and Werner taking home the 2006 Men’s PAC Cross-Country Coach of the Year Award.

Prior to 2004, the Griffins had never won an invitational or placed higher than fifth in the conference championship. Since Werner took over as coach in 2004, the Griffins have had their three most successful seasons in school history by winning a combined nine invitational races and finishing in the top three for both the men’s and women’s teams at the PAC Championships each year.

Prior to coaching at Gwynedd-Mercy College, Werner assisted in the girl's winter and spring track teams for four years at Central Bucks West High School and was promoted to head coach of the girl's cross country team in 1997.

After graduating from Beaver in 1998 with a degree in Graphic Design, Werner earned his Masters Degree in Education at Arcadia University while competing in dozens of road races and multi-sport races in eight different states, culminating in a top 20 finish at the 2002 Duke Blue Devil Ironman Distance Triathlon (2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike, 26.2 mile run).

After 2002, Werner returned to coaching at Maple Point Middle School in Langhorne, Pa. where he coached for two years while teaching at Neshaminy High School. In 2004, Werner left Neshaminy High School to begin teaching at North Penn High School and began coaching at Gwynedd-Mercy College.

Werner is still active in his own racing, competing in road races at various distances including the 2004 Atlantic City Marathon, the 2005 Philadelphia Marathon and the 2007 Turkey Swamp 50K (31 mile) race.

Werner resides in Ambler, PA with his wife Sharon and son Hagan.
