Gwynedd-Mercy Men take title at GMC Invite

FT. WASHINGTON, PA. – The Gwynedd-Mercy Men’s Cross Country Team was first overall while the women’s team was a point shy in second at the fourth annual GMC Invitational held at Ft. Washington State Park.

Sophomore R.J. Every (Harleysville, Pa./Lansdale Catholic) was the top male Griffin finisher, placing fourth. Sophomores Dan Geary (Hatfield, Pa./Lansdale Catholic) and Mike Pflueger (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn), along with freshman Ralph Ricciardi (North Wales, Pa./North Penn) all finished in the top 12 to help the men’s team win its second title in the four-year history of the meet.

On the women’s side, senior Lisa Smedley (Warrington, Pa./C.B. East) was second overall and sophomore Alycia Tranchitella (Philadelphia, Pa./St. Huberts) was third but the Griffins came up one point short behind Delaware Valley for the team title. Sophomore Victoria English (Clarks Summit, Pa./Abington Heights) and senior Christine Harrison (Havertown, Pa./Archbishop Prendergast) also finished in the top 10 for GMC.

Eastern’s Mike Wilson was the men’s individual winner while Delaware Valley’s Brittany Schwartz was first place in the women’s race.

The Griffins return to action on next Saturday at the DeSales University Invitational.
