GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. - Gwynedd-Mercy rolled past
Ursinus, 74-53, in the final game of the 2007 Gwynedd-Mercy Women's
Classic Thursday afternoon at the Griffin Complex.
Junior Karen Tierney (Philadelphia, Pa./Kennedy-Kenrick)
led all scorers with 18 points while senior Ashley Vandiver
(Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) added 16 and sophomore Kristy
Cramp (Pennington, N.J./Hopewell Valley) chipped in 14.
Tierney's three-pointer capped a 19-3 run to start
the contest and led to a 40-22 GM halftime lead.
For the game, the Griffins (9-2) shot a season-best
51% (26-of-51) from the floor and hit on 9-of-15 (60%) attempts
from downtown.
Carolyn Konstanzer led Ursinus (6-4) with 11 points
and six boards.
Senior Jackie Dougherty (Roslyn, Pa./Abington)
was named the MVP of the two-day event as she averaged 12 points,
eight rebounds, five assists and two steals in the two games. Vandiver
was selected for the All-Classic Team as the forward averaged double
figures in both contests.
Gwynedd-Mercy will play at Rosemont in a Pennsylvania
Athletic Conference matchup a week from tonight at 7 p.m.
