Tierney's career-best 22 points helps propel
big second half

WILKES-BARRE, PA. - Gwynedd-Mercy broke a 24-24
halftime tie by using 29-4 run midway in the second stanza as the
Griffins prevailed over King's, 66-51, in non-league action Monday
evening.
Junior Karen Tierney (Philadelphia, Pa./Kennedy-Kenrick)
led the charge with a career-high 22 points as she and sophomore
Kristy Cramp (Pennington, N.J./Hopewell Valley) combined
to hit nine of the team's 12 three-pointers. Cramp finished with
15 points.
Senior Ashley Vandiver (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop
Ryan) chipped in nine points, seven boards, and four blocks as the
Griffins (2-1) rebounded from a slow first half, hitting 14-of-29
(48%) from the floor in the second period en route to a 20-of-63
(31%) performance in the contest.
GM held the rebounding edge, 47-38. Senior Michelle
Sgrillo (Philadelphia, Pa./Cardinal Dougherty) grabbed a game-high
eight rebounds while freshman Kate McGinn (Ambler, Pa./Lansdale
Catholic) hauled in seven. McGinn also blocked two shots.
Jenna Palumbo netted 17 points for the Lady Monarchs,
who suffered their first loss on the season (4-1).
Gwynedd-Mercy hosts Misericordia in PAC action this
Saturday at 2 p.m. in the home opener.
