Upperclassmen help Griffins stay unbeaten
in league play

IMMACULATA, PA. - Gwynedd-Mercy improved to 3-0
in PAC play and 5-1 overall with a 60-47 win over Immaculata Thursday
evening.
Ashley Vandiver (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop
Ryan) was one rebound shy of a double-double as the senior finished
with a game-high 22 points and added nine boards, four blocks, and
a steal. Senior Michelle Sgrillo (Philadelphia, Pa./Cardinal
Dougherty) grabbed 11 rebounds and junior Karen Tierney (Philadelphia,
Pa./Kennedy-Kenrick) scored 12 points to help the Griffins win its
fourth in a row.
Points came at a premium as Gwynedd held the Macs
to eight points over the first 12 minutes of the game, leading 20-8,
but Immaculata cut into the Griffin lead as GM held a 28-21 edge
at the break.
Immaculata would score the first eight points of
the second half to go ahead, 29-28, with 16 minutes left. The teams
traded leads over the next 10 minutes before a 9-0 GM run gave the
Griffins a 53-41 advantage with three minutes to go in the contest.
Domonique Murray had a team-high 18 points for Immaculata
(4-4, 2-2 PAC).
Despite being edged in the rebounding deparment,
54-53, and not hitting a three-pointer in 26 attempts, GM forced
27 turnovers on the night.
Gwynedd-Mercy hosts Albright in non-league action
next Saturday, December 15th at 2 p.m.
