Dougherty nets 1,000th point as Griffins win

GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. - Jackie Dougherty (Roslyn,
Pa./Abington) scored her 1,000th career point as she scored 24 points
and grabbed 11 rebounds, both game highs, to lead Gwynedd-Mercy
to an 87-58 Pennsylvania Athletic Conference win over Alvernia Monday
night at the Griffin Complex.
The senior, needing five points, accomplished the
feat hitting a free throw just 3:03 into the contest. For the game
Dougherty added six assists and four steals. Teammates Ashley
Vandiver (Philadelphia/Archbishop Ryan) scored 22 points and
Michelle Sgrillo (Philadelphia/Cardinal Dougherty) collected
10 points and 10 rebounds as the Griffins (17-2, 11-0 PAC) rolled
to their 10th win in a row.
Lauren Fortna led the Crusaders (11-7, 9-2 PAC)
with 20 points.
A 21-10 GM run to close the half sent Gwynedd to
the lockerroom up 44-29 at the break.
Alvernia battled back in the second half to get
the deficit to just 10 with 12:41 left in the game but the Griffins
went on a 15-2 run soon after and led 73-50 with just over six minutes
remaining.
Kristy Cramp (Pennington, N.J./Hopewell Valley)
hit all four of the Gwynedd's three-pointers as the sophomore was
the fourth Griffin to score in double figures.
GM hit 34-of-77 (44.2%) for the game but outrebounded
the Crusaders, 55-35.
The Griffins will travel to Misericordia on Thursday
for a PAC tilt starting at 6 p.m.
