2007 GMC Women's Classic
Widener 75, Misericordia 66 OT
GWYNEDD VALLEY, Pa. Sophomore Megan Sipple
hit the tying 3-pointer late in regulation and Widener took control
in overtime for a 75-66 victory over Misericordia at the GMC Womens
Classic in Gwynedd Valley, PA.
Sophomore Kelley Guarrera made a layup with 3:57
left to give Widener a 57-54 lead. Misericordia rattled off the
next seven points for a 61-57 cushion with 50 seconds remaining,
hitting only one basket and shooting just 5-for-10 from the line.
Freshman Becky Tyler converted a breakaway layup
with 22 seconds left as Widener (5-7) closed to 61-59. Amy Hughes
made 1-of-2 from the line with 18 seconds to play for a three-point
margin, setting up the final possession.
Sipple got the ball on the left wing following a
timeout and with a defender in her face, banked in a 3-pointer with
five seconds left for a 62-62 tie. Hughes potential game-winning
3-pointer from 30 feet hit the back of the rim.
Overtime belonged to Widener. Freshman Rayne Reber
nailed her second 3-pointer of the extra session to give the Pride
a 70-66 lead. Widener did not allow a point over the final 3:23
for its second victory in four outings.
Guarrera scored 18 points and hauled in nine rebounds
for Widener, which shot 4-of-5 in overtime and 42 percent (32-of-77)
overall. Junior Stephanie Bixby had 12 points and seven rebounds
with Reber contributing 12 and six.
Ericka Morrison ended with 18 points and 12 rebounds
with Lacey DeGraw contributing 16 and 14 for the Cougars (4-6),
which shot 45 percent (23-of-51) overall but were only 20-for-34
from the line. Amy Hughes scored 12 points and Alyson Kristofik
netted 11.
