January 3, 2006 GETTYSBURG, PA. -- Gwynedd-Mercy led from start to finish as the Griffins defeated Washington College, 77-60, in the first game of the 2006 Days Inn Classic hosted by Gettysburg College. Sophomore Lauren Healy (Glenmoore, Pa./Owen J. Roberts) led four Griffins in double figures, finishing with a game-high 20 points. Senior Jillian Chiarantona (Abington, Pa./Gwynedd Mercy Academy) added 15 points and six rebounds. Juniors Jackie Dougherty (Roslyn, Pa./Abington) and Beccie Strohecker (Hatboro, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham) chipped in 13 and 10 each respectively. GMC (7-2) shot 45.2% (28-of-62) for the game including a 14-of-27 (51.9%) spurt in the second half. The Griffins were outrebounded, 42-30, but scored 29 points off of 26 Shorewomen turnovers. Gwynedd will take on the host Bullets tomorrow in
the final day of the tournament. Tip-off is scheduled for 4 p.m. |
