Four Griffins net double figures to stay unbeaten in league play

GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA - Gwynedd-Mercy closed the game on a 24-8 run to pull away from Rosemont, 81-55, on Senior Night Monday evening at the Griffin Complex in Pennsylvania Athletic Conference action.

Freshman Kristy Cramp (Pennington, N.J./Hopewell Valley) scored 13 of her team-high 16 points in the second half. She was one of four players in double figures with junior Jackie Dougherty (Roslyn, Pa./Abington) adding 15 points. Senior Jillian Chiarantona (Abington, Pa./Gwynedd-Mercy Academy) and sophomore Beccie Strohecker (Hatboro, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham) each added double-doubles (10 points/10 rebounds) as GM won is seventh-straight game.

Cecelia Saunders led all scorers with 17 points and added nine boards for the Ramblers (8-9, 4-8 PAC). Katie Linder chipped in 12 points, four rebounds, and two blocks.

Gwynedd (18-3, 12-0 PAC) had trouble finding its rhythm in the first half, hitting just 2-of-16 from downtown. Rosemont stayed within arms length in the first 20 minutes and only trailed 31-29 at the break.

Linder gave Rosemont a 37-35 lead early in the second stanza with her layin, but it would be the last lead for the Ramblers. Megan Torbik made it just a five-point deficit at 48-43 with 10:20 to play before Cramp hit one of her four treys on the night to help GM begin to pull away for good.

The Griffins were 24-of-59 (40%) shooting including a 13-for-29 (44%) stint in the second half. GM held a 54-33 rebound edge. Each team committed 17 turnovers. Rosemont shot 21-of-64 (32%) but just 1-of-11 from downtown.

Before the game seniors Chiarantona and Allison Gray (Norristown, Pa./Kennedy-Kenrick) were honored by the team and coaching staff.

Gwynedd-Mercy will travel to Alvernia in Reading, Pa. on Wednesday in a PAC matchup starting at 6 p.m.
