Box
Score
GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. Gwynedd-Mercy won its
fourth-straight game behind 18 points, eight rebounds, four assists,
and two steals from senior Jillian Chiarantona (Abington,
Pa./Gwynedd Mercy Acad.) as the Griffins hung on to defeat Misericordia,
61-53, Monday evening in a Pennsylvania Athletic Conference Game
at the Griffin Complex.
Chiarantona hit five of the teams nine treys
while sophomore Beccie Strohecker (Hatboro, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham)
added 12 points and five boards.
It looked as if the Griffins (5-1, 3-0 PAC) were
going to blow out CM early, starting the game on a 13-2 run. Stroheckers
only three-pointer of the night gave GMC a 20-point lead late in
the first. Gwynedd led 36-20 at the break.
In the second half, Misericordia (3-3, 1-2 PAC)
chipped at the deficit, rallying to get at seven at 48-41 with 7:24
to play on a layup by Amy Hughes. Later, a 7-0 CM run made it a
54-50 game with 2:29 remaining. A bucket on a fast break on the
next possession and key free throws down the stretch from junior
Ashley Vandiver (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) helped
the Griffins to the win.
Hughes led the Cougars with 14 points. Jenell Fort
chipped in 10 points and five boards. As a team CM, shot 20-of-56
(35.%) for the game while Gwynedd was 19-of-49 (38.8%).
Gwynedd hosts Kings College in non-league
action this Wednesday starting at 7 p.m.
