Griffins clinch top seed in PAC Tournament; reach 20 wins

GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA - Gwynedd-Mercy defeated Cabrini,
72-50, Saturday afternoon in a Pennsylvania Athletic Conference
matchup. With the win, the Griffins nail down the top seed in the
PAC Tournament and extend their win streak to nine games.
Ashley Vandiver (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop
Ryan) led the Griffins with 15 points and seven boards. The junior
added two assists and a blocked shot. Freshman Kristy Cramp (Pennington,
N.J./Hopewell Valley) and junior Jackie Dougherty (Roslyn,
Pa./Abington) added 14 points each.
Katelin Ryan netted 13 points while Rachel Caron
added 11 and Jen Skursky grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds for the
Cabrini (10-13, 9-5 PAC).
The first half saw the Griffins (20-3, 14-0 PAC)
lead by no more than seven points throughout as the Cavs stayed
close. GM led just 30-26 at the half.
Gwynedd upped its lead to 10 on a trey from senior
Jillian Chiarantona (Abington, Pa./Gwynedd-Mercy Academy)
with just less than 13 minutes in the second stanza. From there,
the Griffins pulled away, using a 17-4 run over the last six minutes
of the contest to close the game.
GM shot 46% (25-of-54) for the game including a
53% (15-of-28) stint in the second half. The Cavs hit 37% (20-of-53)
from the floor held a 34-33 rebound edge.
The Griffins have reached the 20-win plateau for
the seventh time under 11-year head coach Keith Mondillo.
Gwynedd-Mercy will play at Neumann this Monday,
February 13th in PAC action starting at 6 p.m.
