Griffins roll to fourth-straight win, avenge championship loss
to Crusaders

GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. -- Junior Ashley Vandiver
(Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) collected her second double-double
of the season to lead three Griffins in double figures as Gwynedd-Mercy
posted its fourth win in a row, defeating Alvernia, 76-63, in a
Pennsylvania Athletic Conference game Wednesday evening at the Griffin
Complex.
Vandiver scored a game high 16 points and grabbed
10 boards. Teammates Jackie Dougherty (Roslyn, Pa./Abington)
and Jillian Chiarantona (Abington, Pa./Gwynedd-Mercy Academy)
added 14 and 12 points respectively.
Erin Knarr notched a double-double for the Crusaders
(2-9, 1-3 PAC), finishing with 12 points and 11 rebounds.
Leading 38-29 at the half, Alvernia closed the game
to 44-41 early in the second stanza. But the Griffins (10-2, 5-0
PAC) opened the game up courtesy of a 14-2 run to lead by double
digits the rest of the way.
Gwynedd shot 43.5% (30-of-69) and scored 36 points
off of 27 Crusader turnovers. Alvernia shot 26-of-56 (44.6%) but
just 1-of-6 from behind the arc.
The game was a rematch of last season's PAC Championship
game in which Alvernia defeated Gwynedd in Reading, Pa.
The Griffins will host Immaculata on Saturday in
a PAC matchup here at the Griffin Complex at 2 p.m.
