Gwynedd-Mercy 63, Misericordia 52
DALLAS, PA. -- Sophomore Jackie Dougherty
(Roslyn, Pa./Abington) scored a career-high 24 points to lead Gwynedd-Mercy
to its fifth-straight win with a 63-52 win at Misericordia in Pennsylvania
Athletic Conference action Monday night.
Freshman Lauren Healy (Glenmoore, Pa./Owen
J. Roberts) contributed 13 points as the Griffins used a late surge
and hit key free throws down the stretch.
Leading 31-23 at halftime, Gwynedd-Mercy (13-10,
12-2 PAC) built their biggest lead of the contest at the 16:07 mark
of the second as Healy made it a 40-25 GMC advantage.
But the Cougars (14-9, 10-4 PAC) used a 10-0 run
over the next six minutes to get within five points twice.
Back-to-back treys from sophomore Michelle Sgrillo
(Philadelphia, Pa./Cardinal Dougherty) and Dougherty helped
restore a double-digit lead with 7:40 to play. Sgrillo finished
with five points, seven rebounds, and four assists. Freshman Karen
Tierney (Philadelphia, Pa./Kennedy-Kenrick) chipped in 10 points
off the bench.
Misericordia made it a two-possession game at 58-52
with 31 seconds in regulation but Dougherty and junior Allison
Gray (Norristown, Pa./Kennedy-Kenrick) combined to go 5-for-6
from the free-throw line the rest of the way to put the game out
of reach.
For the game, GMC connected on 20-of-54 (37%) shooting
including seven three-pointers, which ties a season-high.
The Cougars were held without a double-digit scorer
as Erika Morrison led Misericordia with nine points. Johnna Schickram
added eight points and a game-high 10 rebounds.
The Griffins will host Wesley in the final regular-season
home game on Wednesday, starting at 6 p.m.
