Gwynedd-Mercy 75, Misericordia 66
GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. - Senior Gina Morano (Philadelphia,
Pa./Nazareth Academy) tied a career-high scoring 18 points to help
Gwynedd-Mercy defeat Misericordia, 75-66, in a Pennsylvania Athletic
Conference game Saturday afternoon at the Griffin Complex.
Sophomore Jackie Dougherty (Roslyn, Pa./Abington)
added 14 points and freshman Lauren Healy (Glenmoore, Pa./Owen
J. Roberts) chipped in 10 as Gwynedd-Mercy (7-9, 6-1 PAC) won their
third-in-a-row.
Leading 38-33 at the break, the Griffins saw Misericordia
take their first lead of the game at 47-46 with 13:08 in the game.
But a 21-2 run over the next seven minutes helped keep a double-digit
lead.
The Cougars (10-6, 6-2) threatened late, as Rachel
Haley hit a three-pointer with 40 seconds left to make it a 73-66
contest. Healy was one three Misericordia players in double figures
finishing with 10 points. Johanna Schickram led CM with 16 and seven
rebounds.
Morano, who was part of a 20-of-25 team effort from
the free-throw line, hit 8-of-9 herself. Junior Rebecca Frederick
(North Cape May, N.J./Lower Cape May) hauled in a career-high
10 rebounds while freshman Karen Tierney (Philadelphia, Pa./Kennedy-Kenrick)
finished with nine points and eight assists.
The team will travel to Marywood on Monday in a
makeup PAC game from January 22nd. Tipoff is slated for 7 p.m.
