GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. -- Gwynedd-Mercy cruised to
its fourth win in-a-row with an 87-48 Pennsylvania Athletic Conference
win over Eastern Saturday afternoon at the Griffin Complex.
Four Griffins reached double figures led by sophomore
Jackie Dougherty's (Roslyn, Pa./Abington) 14 points.
The win improves Gwynedd-Mercy to 12-10 and 11-2
in the PAC. Eastern falls to 9-13 and 7-8 in league play.
GMC stormed out to a 47-21 lead at the break thanks
to a 52.8% (19-of-36) shooting effort in the first half. Gwynedd
also netted 21 points off of 17 first-stanza turnovers by the Eagles.
Senior Gina Morano (Philadelphia, Pa./Nazareth Academy)
added 13 points while junior Jillian Chiarantona (Abington, Pa./Gwynedd-Mercy),
sophomore Michelle Sgrillo (Philadelphia, Pa./Cardinal Dougherty)
and freshman Lauren Healy (Glenmoore, Pa./Owen J. Roberts) each
added 10 points respectively.
Sgrillo, senior Alexis Boyle (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown),
and junior Rebecca Frederick (North Cape May, N.J./Lower Cape May)
all grabbed eight rebounds apiece.
Mandy Kuiken led the Eagles with 10 points while
teammate Marci Pentz chipped in seven points and 10 boards. As a
whole, Eastern shot just 32.8% (20-of-61) for the contest.
The Griffins will play at Misericordia in PAC action
on Monday, February 14th at 6 p.m
