November 27, 2004 Delaware Valley 73, Gwynedd-Mercy 69 DOYLESTOWN, PA. - A late charge by Gwynedd-Mercy came up short as Delaware Valley held on for a 73-69 non-league win Saturday afternoon. Freshman Lauren Healy (Glenmoore, Pa./Owen J. Roberts) led the Griffins with 14 points while junior Jillian Chiarantona (Abington, Pa./Gwynedd-Mercy Academy) and sophomore Jackie Dougherty (Roslyn, Pa./Abington) each added 11 points. Bridget Golden notched a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds. Teammate Rachel Joyce added 17, including a 13-for-14 effort from the free-throw line. Trailing by 11 with just under eight minutes to play, the Griffins rallied, going on a 12-0 run capped off by Healy's short jumper giving GMC a 61-60 lead, their first of the game. Joyce would give the Aggies (3-1) the lead for good with her bucket with 1:05 to play and connect on five of her next six free throws down the stretch to cement the win. Healy added four rebounds, four steals, two assists, and a blocked shot. Senior Gina Morano (Philadelphia, Pa./Nazareth Academy) chipped in seven points, seven boards, and five steals. Delaware Valley led 39-32 at the half. The Griffins (0-3) will search for their first win
on the season on Wednesday, December 1st with a Pennsylvania Athletic
Conference game at Alvernia in a rematch of last season's PAC Championship
game. Tipoff is scheduled for 6 p.m.
