ALLENTOWN, PA. -- Gwynedd-Mercy had four players
in double figures as the Griffins closed out the regular season
with an 89-43 pasting of Cedar Crest Saturday afternoon in a Pennsylvania
Athletic Conference Game.
Sophomore Jackie Dougherty (Roslyn, Pa./Abington)
led the charge with 20 points, nine rebounds, and five assists.
Junior Jillian Chiarantona (Abington,
Pa./Gwynedd-Mercy Academy) drained six of the team's season-high
11 three-pointers to finish with 18 points.
The Griffins (14-11, 13-3 PAC) broke open an eight-point
lead midway through the first half by ourscoring Cedat Crest, 24-11,
over the next 7:57 of the stanza to lead 49-28 at the half.
A 20-2 run to open the second half helped GMC increase
the lead fueled by Beccie Strohecker's (Hatboro, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham)
11 points in the period. The freshman finished with 13 points.
Courtney Porzio led the Falcons (3-19, 2-14 PAC)
with 17 points while teammate Maria Stefani added 10 points and
seven rebounds off the bench.
Senior Gina Morano (Philadelphia, Pa./Nazareth
Academy) chipped in 10 points and seven boards. Freshman Karen
Tierney (Philadelphia, Pa./Kennedy-Kenrick) added seven assists
and six points.
The Griffins, who clinched the #3 seed in the upcoming
PAC Tournament, will host the #6 seed Cabrini here at the Griffin
Complex on Tuesday, February 22nd in a first-round game starting
at 6 p.m.
