January 12, 2005 Gwynedd-Mercy 80, Cedar Crest 31 GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. - Gwynedd-Mercy remained unbeaten in conference play with an 80-31 Pennsylvania Athletic Conference win over Cedar Crest Wednesday night at the Griffin Complex. A pair of freshmen led the charge as Karen Tierney (Philadelphia, Pa./Kennedy-Kenrick) scored a game-high 21 points and Beccie Strohecker (Hatboro, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham) added 18 to help the Griffins improve to 4-8 and 3-0 in league play. A 31-7 run midway through the first half helped Gwynedd-Mercy to a 45-18 lead at the break. Courtney Porzio led the Falcons (1-7, 0-4 PAC) with 12 points but Cedar Crest was outrebounded, 52-33. The team was plagued with 29 turnovers that lead to 38 Griffin points. Tierney chipped in seven assists, six rebounds, and five steals. Sophomore Jackie Dougherty (Roslyn, Pa./Abington) netted 15 points while Michelle Sgrillo (Philadelphia, Pa./Cardinal Dougherty) grabbed a career-high 16 rebounds. Gwynedd-Mercy plays at Rosemont College in a PAC tilt on Monday, January 17th at 7 p.m.
