GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. - Gwynedd-Mercy had their four-game winning streak snapped as Alvernia held the Griffins without a field goal in the last three minutes for a 59-50 win in Pennsylvania Athletic Conference action Wednesday night at the Griffin Complex.

Juniors Jillian Chiarantona (Abington, Pa./Gwynedd-Mercy Academy) and Rebecca Frederick (North Cape May, N.J./Lower Cape May) led GMC with 10 points apiece. The Griffins shot just 31.1% (19-of-61) for the game, a season low.

The Griffins (8-10, 7-2 PAC) held a five-point lead in with 5:26 the first half only to see the Crusaders rally to take a 25-24 edge at the half. The seesaw first period featured five lead changes and five ties.

Erin McIntyre's jumper gave Alvernia (15-5, 10-2 PAC) a 43-34 lead with 12:25 in the game. McIntyre lead all scorers with 17 points on 7-of-12 shooting.

Gwynedd-Mercy closed the gap to just two, 50-48, with 3:20 to play but it would be the last bucket of the night as Alvernia used a 9-2 run to close the game.

Trish O'Gurek chipped in 12 points and Kacie Andrusko notched a double-double with 11 points and 10 boards. The Crusaders shot 22-of-52 (42.3%) for the game.
