GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA - Senior Rashid Santiago
(Allentown, Pa./George School) was selected to the Philadelphia
Inquirer Winter Academic All-Area Team in Men's Basketball.
The teams are voted on by the sports information offices of the
28 area institutions from the Philadelphia metropolitan area.
A Business Administration major with a 3.69 GPA,
Santiago has made Dean's List the last five semesters.
On the court, he was a four-year starter at guard
helping the Griffins win two Pennsylvania Athletic Conference (PAC)
Championships and play in two NCAA Tournaments. He also was named
to the 2004-05 PAC All-Sportsmanship Team.
"Rashid Santiago is a true student athlete
in every sense of the definition. His dedication and hard work to
his sport, to the Gwynedd-Mercy College community, and to his finance
degree is a testament to his character. I am proud of him as player
and as a young man, but furthermore I thank him for allowing me
to be part of his life over the past four years", said Griffin
Head Coach John Baron.
In his four year career, Santiago averaged over
six points, three assists, and three rebounds in 107 games. This
past season, he led the team in assists (86) and steals (29) and
scored a career-high 20 points back on November 30th, 2006 against
Eastern University.
