Griffins stumble in loss to Pacers

SCRANTON, PA. - Gwynedd-Mercy couldn't hold off
a second-half surge from Marywood as the Pacers handed the Griffins
their first PAC loss of the season an 80-77 defeat Monday evening.
Senior Corey Rich (Norristown, Pa./Kennedy-Kenrick)
led GM with 16 points while Chris DelBrocco (Philadelphia,
Pa./St. John Neumann) added 15. Junior Kevin Lauer (Philadelphia,
Pa./St. John Neumann) notched 14 points and 10 rebounds for his
first double-double of the year.
The Griffins (3-2, 2-1 PAC) led 42-35 at the half
thanks to hot shooting, as the Griffins were 19-of-38 from the floor.
In the second stanza, GM would lead by as much as
13 points as two free throws from sophomore Haven Wroten (Philadelphia,
Pa./Penn Charter) staked Gwynedd to a 55-42 leaed with just under
14 minutes in the contest. Wroten finished with 12 points and eight
boards.
But a 13-3 run later by Marywood (4-3, 2-1 PAC)
knotted the game at 61-61 with 6:50 remaining.
Adam Wildasin gave the Pacers the lead for good
as he hit two free throws and a three-pointer on consective possessions
for a 70-65 edge.
Gwynedd got as close as 75-74 when Lauer sank two
from the line with 45 ticks left.
The Griffins travel to Immaculata for another PAC
matchup this Thursday at 8 p.m.
