Santiago nets career high in easy PAC win over

ST. DAVIDS, PA. - Senior Rashid Santiago (Allentown,
Pa./George School) poured in a career-high 20 points to help lead
Gwynedd-Mercy to a 77-61 win over Eastern Thursday evening as the
Griffins picked up their first Pennsylvania Athletic Conference
victory of the season.
Santiago, who also recorded six boards, four assists,
and two steals, was one of four Griffins in double figures. Senior
Corey Rich (Norristown, Pa./Kennedy-Kenrick) netted 15, sophomoreHaven
Wroten (Philadelphia, Pa./Penn Charter) chipped in 13 and Jack
Forth (Upper Merion, Pa./Upper Merion) 12 respectively.
GM (2-1, 1-0 PAC) never trailed in the contest as
a 23-7 run to end the first half staked the Griffins to a 32-15
lead at the break. The Eagles (1-3, 0-1 PAC) could get no closer
than 12 points the rest of the game.
Matt Malloy tabbed a double-double (16 points/11
rebounds) for Eastern, who shot 7-of-29 and 0-of-16 from beyond
the arc in the first half en route to a 21-of-50 (42%) shooting
performance. Gwynedd was steady, hitting 44% (31-of-70) from the
floor including an 8-for-16 effort from downtown.
Gwynedd-Mercy won the battle of the boards, 45-33,
and forced 19 EU turnovers.
The Griffins host Misericordia in PAC action this
Saturday in the home opener. Tipoff is at 4 p.m.
