GLENSIDE, PA - Freshman Lemeire Talley (Blackwood,
N.J./Highland) scored 14 of his game-high 25 points in the second
half helping Gwynedd-Mercy snap a three-game losing streak in the
69-61 Pennsylvania Athletic Conference win at Arcadia Saturday afternoon.
Talley hit 10-of-13 shooting including five rebounds
and three assists as the win also helps Gwynedd further cement a
playoff spot in next weekend's PAC Tournament.
Senior Chris DelBrocco (Philadelphia/St.
John Neumann) added 13 points and sophomore Haven Wroten
(Philadelphia/Prep Charter) added 12 points as the Griffins built
a double-digit second half lead and held off a furious comeback
attempt from the Knights.
Tom Keenan (Philadelphia/Father Judge) hit
a three-pointer with 10 seconds left in the first period to give
Gwynedd (12-11, 10-6 PAC) a 34-24 lead at the break. The junior
finished with just six points but pulled down a team-high nine boards.
Later in the second, Talley's putback off a miss
gave GM its biggest lead of the game, 44-29, with 14:45 left to
play. Keenan's second trey with 9:39 left was the only field goal
over the next seven minutes as a 14-point lead shrunk to just three
with 1:39 left.
But DelBrocco iced the game nailing a three-pointer
from the left side on the next possession for a six-point edge.
The Griffins then hit five of six trips at the line to seal the
win.
Gwynedd shot 50% (24-of-48) from the floor and 16-of-20
from the free-throw line compared to Arcadia, who was 34% (18-of-53)
and just 24-of-42 from the charity stripe.
The Griffins play at Wesley on Monday in another
PAC tilt at 7 p.m.
