READING, PA -- Alvernia scored the last seven points
of the game including a go-ahead three-pointer with 33 seconds left
as Gwynedd-Mercy fell to the Crusaders, 64-61, Monday evening in
PAC action.
The Griffins (11-10, 9-5 PAC) led 61-57 as Jack
Forth (Upper Merion, Pa./Upper Merion) nailed a trey with 1:42
on the clock, but Gwynedd could not get another field goal, including
two late looks that did not fall.
Senior Chris DelBrocco (Philadelphia/St.
John Neumann) led GM with 14 points. Rashid Santiago (Allentown,
Pa./George School) added 12 while Forth and freshman Matt Johnson
(Philadelphia/Strawberry Mansion) each chipped in eight.
The Crusader's Matt King had 10 points, but his
three-ball with 33 ticks left gave Alvernia (17-4, 12-2 PAC) a 62-61
lead. Two Terrence Shawell free-throws after a Johnson missed jumper
accounted for the final score. Johnson had one last attempt at the
buzzer but it did not go.
The game was a rematch of last Monday's three-point
win by the home team as the Griffins won 57-54.
Gwynedd will host Neumann this Thursday in another
PAC tilt at 8 p.m.
