GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA - Despite the wet conditions,
the Griffins were able to hold off visiting Dickinson, 6-5, Wednesday
afternoon.
Freshman Albert DiDomenico (Philadelphia/Neumann-Goretti)
went 4-for-5 with two RBIs and a run scored for Gwynedd (22-9).
Junior Mark Mattes (Doylestown, Pa./C.B. East) collected three hits
including a double.
Starter Anthony Capella (Philadelphia/Roman
Catholic) went five innings, stuck out four, walked two, and gave
up one run on just two hits.
Capella left after five with his team up 2-1. Later
in the seventh, the Griffins tacked on two more runs for a 4-1 lead,
but the Red Devils answered, getting two runs back in the top of
the eighth off a GM error.
DiDomenico added an RBI single and Ken Bengtson
(Jamison, Pa./C.B. East) scored from third on a wild pitch in the
eighth, giving the Griffins a 6-3 edge.
In the 9th Dickinson threatened one last time, scoring
two runs to pull within one and had the bases loaded when the home-plate
umpire called the game due to the rain.
Gwynedd will play at Misericordia on Friday at 3
p.m. in the last PAC weekend series of the season. The two teams
will meet here on Saturday in a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.
