Gwynedd-Mercy Places Nine on PAC All-Tournament
Team
Griffins Hurler Josh Thomas Is MVP
READING, PA. --
The participating coaches in the 2007 Pennsylvania Athletic Conference
Baseball Championship selected an All-Tournament Team on Thursday
with nine players from champion Gwynedd-Mercy College making the
squad including senior pitcher Josh Thomas (Severn, Md./Cardinal
Gibbons) who was named Tournament MVP.
The All-Tournament pitching staff is dominated by the Griffins who
allowed just 15 total runs in five games. Sophomore starter Ryan
McNamara (Haddonfield, N.J./Haddon Twp) and junior reliever
Kyle Reynolds (Darby, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara) joined teammate
Thomas as pitchers on the All-Tournament Team along with Alvernia
senior Jason Zeigler, who threw his third straight complete game
in Alvernia's 3-2 opening win over Gwynedd-Mercy.
The infield features another trio of Griffins. Junior Mark Mattes
(Doylestown, Pa./C.B. East), sophomore Tim McMenamin (Maple
Shade, N.J./Maple Shade), and senior Matt Martin (Pottstown,
Pa./St. Pius X) joined Alvernia junior Zach Lutz and Arcadia freshman
Nick Goetz.
Alvernia junior Dale Curry was a unanimous choice as All-Tournament
catcher as was GMC freshman Albert DiDomenico (Philadelphia/Neumann-Goretti)
as designated hitter.
The outfield consists of GMC sophomore Tim Hoban (Philadelphia/Roman
Catholic) and senior Anthony Capella (Philadelphia/Roman
Catholic) along with Alvernia junior Steve Burdan and Arcadia junior
Eric Console.
After dropping the opening game to Alvernia, Gwynedd-Mercy eliminated
Arcadia and Alvernia in the losers bracket before beating Wesley
College twice on Sunday for its third PAC Title. The Griffins will
represent the PAC in the NCAA Regional which begins next Wednesday.
