Griffins hold Aggies to three hits in regular-season finale

GYWNEDD VALLEY, PA. - Nine different pitchers limited Delaware Valley to just three hits as the Griffins closed out the regular season with a 10-0 non-league win over the Aggies Wednesday afternoon.

Junior Mark Mattes (Doylestown, Pa./C.B. East) led Gwynedd with two hits and two RBIs. Sophomore Tim McMenamin (Maple Shade, N.J./Maple Shade) also knocked in two runs as the Griffins (26-9) now have won six straight and head into this weekend's PAC Tournament.

Gwynedd-Mercy scored a run in the first, two in the second, and three in the third to build a 6-0 lead.

RBI singles from seniors J.B. Meadows (Pennsville, N.J./Pennsville) and Angel Burgos (Buffalo, N.Y./Lackawanna) in the seventh capped the Griffin scoring.

Zach Jakubowski. Joe Kistler, and Joel Porambo recorded the three hits for Del Val (11-22).

Senior Joe Harris (Norristown, Pa./Kennedy-Kenrick) picked up the win striking out two in an inning of work.

Gwynedd-Mercy, which clinched the #3 seed will face the #2 seed Alvernia this Friday at 3 p.m. in a first-round matchup of the 2007 PAC Baseball Championship. The double elimination event continues on Saturday and again on Sunday.
