BOYERTOWN, PA. - Sophomores Kevin Dronson (Haddonfield,
N.J./Haddonfield) and Lee McInerney (Philadelphia, Pa./Roman
Catholic) combined on a five-hit shutout to lift Gwynedd-Mercy to
a 4-0 win over Wesley in the consolation bracket to knock the Wolverines
out of the 2006 Pennsylvania Athletic Conference Tournament.
Dronson fanned five, allowed five hits and four
walks. McInerney came on and got out of a jam with two on and two
out in the sixth and from there, allowed just two hits and struck
out three the rest of the way to pick up the save.
RBI singles in the fifth from freshman Tim Hoban
(Philadelphia, Pa./Roman Catholic) and junior Anthony Capella
(Philadelphia, Pa./Roman Catholic) gave the Griffins a 2-0 lead.
Capella would score in the seventh off an RBI single
from sophomore Chris Corkery (Philadelphia, Pa./Roman Catholic)
and an RBI double from freshman Ken Bengtson (Jamison, Pa./C.B.
East) in the eighth helped add some insurance runs for Dronson and
McInerney.
The win improves the Griffins to 30-12 and gave
head coach Paul Murphy his 199th career win.
