GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. - Gwynedd-Mercy was held to
just for hits in a 12-5 non-conference loss to sixth-ranked (ABCA)
Rowan Tuesday afternoon.
The Griffins (13-9) led 5-1 after the second inning,
as freshman Ken Bengtson's (Jamison, Pa./C.B. East)
connected on a two-run single and sophomore Mark Mattes'
(Doylestown, Pa./C.B. East) drove in a run on a sacrifice fly to
highlight a four-run frame.
But from there, the Profs (17-4) took the lead for
good in the fifth, plating four runs to take an 8-5 lead.
Mattes, sophomore Matt Martin (Pottstown,
Pa./St. Pius X) and freshman Nick DiEnno (Philadelphia,
Pa./Archbishop Ryan) had the other three hits for GMC.
Brian McLaughlin went 3-for-5 with two runs scored
and an RBI for Rowan.
The Griffins return to action tomorrow with another
non-league game against Scranton here at 3:30 p.m.
