GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. - Gwynedd-Mercy took two from
Penn State-Berks in a non-league twinbill Sunday afternoon. GM won
game one, 14-7, and the second, 11-1.
In the first game, Anthony Capella (Philadelphia,
Pa./Roman Catholic) tied a school mark with three doubles, as the
junior was 3-for-4 with four RBIs. Sophomore Mark Mattes (Doylestown,
Pa./C.B. East) registered two runs driven in and two runs scored.
Freshman Sean Middleton (Perkasie, Pa./Lansdale
Catholic) earned his first collegiate win, going four innings, yielding
four runs on eight hits and fanning five.
Down 3-0, PSU-Berks plated five runs in the third
before Gwynedd (7-5) answered, scoring six in the bottom of the
inning to take the lead for good.
Game two starter Ryan McNamara (Westmont,
N.J./Haddon Twp.) pitched four innings of no-hit baseball. He struck
out five but walked six. He left in the fifth with the bases full
and no outs. Reliever Lee McInerney (Philadelphia, Pa./Roman
Catholic) came on and threw two scoreless innings, striking out
four on the day. The duo along with sophomore Kyle Reynolds (Darby,
Pa./Cardinal O'Hara) combined on a two-hitter.
Freshman Nick DiEnno (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop
Ryan) had the big bat, going 4-for-4 with four RBIs. Freshman Tyler
Coulter (Gwynedd Valley, Pa./Wissahickon) added a two-run single
in the first for the Griffins.
Gwynedd-Mercy returns to action this Tuesday, March
21st with a non-league game at Rutgers-Camden starting at 3 p.m.
