March 21, 2006 Aston, PA - Alvernia College's baseball team has been selected as the pre-season favorite in the Pennsylvania Athletic Conference (PAC) coaches' poll. The defending champion Crusaders received five of the eight first-place votes and a total of 61 points to finish ahead of Gwynedd-Mercy College. Gwynedd-Mercy, the 2005 Conference runner-up, earned two first-place vote and 53 points to finish in second place in the poll. Neumann College earned the other first-place vote. "Over the past five years, the PAC has had a number of great regional showings and has proven to be a Conference to be reckoned with," Alvernia head coach Yogi Lutz said. "To be selected first in the pre-season poll shows what commitment our players have. As everyone knows, it is where you finish that counts, not where your start."
