Griffins jump out early, notch win over Division II team

PHILADELPHIA - Senior Troy Peiffer (Royersford, Pa./Spring-Ford) collected two doubles and three RBIs and sophomore Kevin Dronson (Haddonfield, N.J./Gloucester Catholic) struck out seven batters over five innings to help Gwynedd-Mercy to a 12-8 over Division II Philadelphia University Wednesday afternoon.

Peiffer went 4-for-4 and scored three runs while junior Anthony Capella (Philadelphia, Pa./Roman Catholic) smacked a three-run homer in the first inning for the Griffins (3-5), who jumped out early.

Dronson allowed just two runs on four hits while walking just one to pick up his first win of the season.

Gwynedd will host Haverford in a non-league doubleheader this Saturday, March 18th at noon.
