DALLAS, PA - Strong pitching allowed Gwynedd-Mercy
to sweep a Pennsylvania Athletic Conference Doubleheader over Misericordia
Wednesday afternoon as the Griffins limited the Cougars to just
four hits on the day.
Sean Middleton (Perkasie, Pa./Lansdale Catholic)
picked up his fourth win on the season as the freshman threw a two-hitter
in a 4-0 win in game one. He did not allow a hit until the fourth.
Back-to-back RBI singles in the fifth from freshmen
Tim Hoban (Philadelphia, Pa./Roman Catholic) and Ken Bengtson
(Jamison, Pa./C.B. East) helped open up a 3-0 lead. Senior Ryan
McMahon (Upper Darby, Pa./Monsignor Bonner) added a sac fly
in the sixth to add some insurance.
In game two, freshman Tim McMenamin (Maple
Shade, N.J./Maple Shade) went five innings, allowing one hit and
junior Anthony Capella (Philadelphia, Pa./Roman Catholic)
scored on an error in the sixth in the Griffin's 1-0 victory.
The bullpen was equally impressive as sophomore
Lee McInerney (Philadelphia, Pa./Roman Catholic) struck
out two batters in the sixth while Kyle Reynolds (Darby,
Pa./Cardinal O'Hara) worked a perfect seventh, recording his seventh
save on the year to tie his own school record set last season.
The Griffins (25-11, 15-3 PAC) host Marywood in
a PAC single game this Friday, April 28th at 3 p.m.
