SCRANTON, PA - Josh Thomas (Severn, Md./Cardinal
Gibbons) threw the second no-hitter in school history to help Gwynedd-Mercy
take a Pennsylvania Athletic Conference doubleheader Saturday afternoon.
The junior allowed just two baserunners, one on
a walk and with one reaching on an error, while striking out a season-high
six batters in a 16-0 win in game one.
Senior Troy Peiffer (Royersford, Pa./Spring-Ford)
and freshman Ken Bengtson (Jamison, Pa./C.B. West) each added
three hits and four runs apiece. Sophomore Chris Corkery (Philadelphia,
Pa./Roman Catholic) had a pair of two-run singles.
In game two, sophomore Kevin Dronson (Haddonfield,
N.J./Gloucester Catholic) went all seven innings for his first complete
game of the year, yielding just four hits while fanning five as
the Griffins won, 5-0, pushing the GM win streak to seven games.
Peiffer gave the Griffins (28-11) a 1-0 lead in
the first with a two-out RBI single. He would single again and score
in the sixth as part of a four-run frame to give Dronson some breathing
room.
Christopher Ritchie had two hits for the Pacers
(17-21, 7-14 PAC).
Gwynedd-Mercy finishes their PAC slate with an 18-3
record and have clinched the #2 seed in the four-team PAC Tournament
which begins Friday, May 5th.
The Griffins will return to action on Tuesday. May
2nd with a non-conference contest at Delaware Valley starting at
3:30 p.m.
