ST. DAVIDS, PA. - Junior Matt Daley (Philadelphia,
Pa./Roman Catholic) became the first pitcher in Gwynedd-Mercy Baseball
history to throw a no-hitter helping the Griffins sweep a Pennsylvania
Athletic Conference doubleheader against Eastern on Saturday.
Daley allowed just three baserunners while striking
out five in a 14-0 win in game one. Freshman Tyler Coulter (Gwynedd
Valley, Pa./Wissakickon) went 2-for-2 with three RBIs. Sophomore
Mark Mattes (Doylestown, Pa./C.B. East) collected two hits,
scoring twice and knocking in a run.
Game two starter Josh Thomas (Severn, Md./Cardinal
Gibbons) went the distance in a 7-4 win. The junior scattered seven
hits and allowed no earned runs.
Seniors Troy Peiffer (Royersford, Pa./Spring-Ford)
hit a two-run home run in the first inning and Ryan McMahon (Upper
Darby, Pa./Monsignor Bonner) was 2-for-4 with an RBI and run scored.
The Griffins improve to 10-6 and 3-0 in PAC play.
Eastern slips to 3-11 and 0-3 in the league.
Gwynedd-Mercy returns to action tomorrow with a
non-league twinbill at Dickinson starting at noon.
